J2EE Programmer (Java)

BioWare Austin is looking for qualified Java/J2EE Programmer for our platform group to help create and maintain MMO platform systems. Platform systems include ecommerce, subscriptions, business intelligence, global game systems (like chat or event logging), metrics, customer service tools, and other game systems global to the game service. The successful candidate will have expert knowledge of and experience in the design, implementation, and continuing support of J2EE enterprise applications. Extensive experience and knowledge of highly scalable, fault tolerant, uniformly designed, object oriented, distributed applications is required. End to end knowledge of application architecture from RDBMS to web browser is also required for this job.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computing science or computer engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional software development experience engineering solutions conforming to the Java Enterprise Edition standards.
  • Expertise in developing HTML Interfaces, RDBMS Design and best practices in Object Oriented Design.
  • Solid awareness and enthusiasm for Object Oriented Design Patterns.
  • Experience writing interfaces to 3rd-party products, including customer service, billing, chat, patching, and various other similar applications.
  • Exposure engineering solutions for distributed systems.
  • Exposure in both application based replication and/messaging systems via technologies such as XML-RPC, SOAP, Message Driven Beans, RMI, JMS or CORBA.
  • Exposure in building multi-threaded architectures and good grasp of the Java5 concurrency and NIO APIs.
  • Competent with Java syntax up to the current latest stable release of the Java Standard Edition, Version 6.
  • Desire to work on highly scalable distributed application clusters.
  • Passion for all things UNIX.
  • Passion for games.

Preferred Skills

  • Any exposure to Struts, Hibernate, Log4j or the Spring Framework, as well as HTML templating engines such as Velocity or FreeMarker.
  • Exposure to J2EE Application Containers such as Sun Glassfish, BEA WebLogic, IBM Websphere, JBoss, Jonas or Resin a definite plus.
  • E-Commerce or Customer service applications experience.
  • Game industry experience.
  • Platform system experience.
