World Designer

BioWare Austin is seeking candidates for World Designer positions to help create BioWare's first Massively Multiplayer Online game.

Duties

  • Primary Task: Translate game concepts into specific playable levels. Work closely with 3D Artists and Technical Designers to design and create game levels. Work with all members of the production team to execute level designs and work through level design revisions as needed.
  • Secondary Tasks: Script dialogue, cut-scenes and in-game events. Set up and populate game levels. Update documentation that details the level design in the game.

Education

Minimum education (preferred but not mandatory): Two to four year degree or diploma, or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Experience using world building toolsets (Neverwinter Nights, Unreal, etc).

Required Submission (for all applicants)

An example of game design using a game toolset must be provided for you to be considered for the position. The toolset to be used is the NWN toolset. Here are the guidelines for the module:

  • Make the module short.
  • All scripting must be well commented.
  • The module must have at least one puzzle. A puzzle is an obstacle that the player must solve to continue through the adventure. It should involve complex scripting. It must be stable.
  • The module MUST have one in-game cutscene.
  • The module must have at least one event. An event is a set of actions that a group of NPCs perform when the player sets off a trigger. It should involve complex scripting. It must be stable.
  • There should be at least two areas.
  • We will be judging the complexity, stability, and organization of the scripting in the module.
  • The submission module should showcase your best work early on (in the first 10 minutes).

Please refer to the following sample Neverwinter Nights module (.zip, 110 KB), for an example of the style, substance, and quality we are looking for in submissions!
