BioWare Edmonton is looking for an External Producer who will lead the relationship with external development teams and internal teams to produce games for sequels, expansion packs and ports to other platforms. This role will oversee all aspects of production of the game externally and internally. The External Producer is accountable for meeting the quality targets, budgets and performance goals of the product line, and managing the tradeoffs to deliver a highly rated game to market. You must be passionate about the RPG games market, looking for ways to expand the game play and fun factor in the genre. Your experience includes taking a idea from concept through development to completion, while managing the development process along the way.

The ideal candidate has experience releasing previous titles in the game industry, for both PC and/or console markets. Specific examples of creative leadership and vision provided in those titles are necessary.

The External Producer is an experienced leader, with great communication skills and a natural ability to motivate others to be their best. Experience in management of complete projects, managing the schedule, milestones and tasks for a large team of people is essential. You are capable of managing all aspects of the project, including requirements, scope, risk and more, including reporting to senior management and publishers on project status and key issues.

Responsibilities

Vision and Creative Direction

  • Leads external development teams to deliver projects to BioWare quality levels and expectations.
  • Provides leadership and direction to external and internal teams
  • Evaluating game play and fun-factor of the product. Provides a critical view to improving the game’s design or implementation.
  • Reviews the content in the game, providing constructive feedback and improvement suggestions.
  • Exhibits passion and salesmanship to provide motivation for both the external development team and all other internal staff involved in the project.

Team Interactions, Leadership & Management

  • Facilitate and drive team communication at all levels.
  • Maintain strong relationships with development partners and the publisher, ensuring clear communication on all elements of development.
  • Leads and manages the effectiveness of external development teams, ensuring clear communication on all elements of development.
  • Manage and coordinate contract issues and tracking of milestone deliveries.
  • Works closely with the internal functional leads and team members and peers in other depts. and project teams.
  • Directly involved with external communications and coordinating information flow (interviews, screenshots, demos) to marketing, press, and publishers.
  • Interact, understand and communicate with Sr. managers in the company.

Project Management

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining production budgets, schedules and deadlines for assigned projects.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining project plans, production budgets, schedules and deadlines for product-related materials.
  • Review and coordinate (? Or just approve) approval of delivered milestones.
  • Provide design, artistic and/or technical direction to ensure product innovation and quality.
  • Coordinate writing of Functional Specifications and Statements of Work necessary for contract management.
  • Ensures all necessary project documentation is accurate and complete, including project status reports, project plans, partner performance feedback, post-mortems and compiling historical information.
  • Risk Management – Identify, analyze, prioritize, mitigate and communicate project risks.
  • Manage the flow of assets and information between internal and external teams. Coordinate the efficient use of internal resources.
  • Manage the QA process.

Skills / Abilities / Personal Suitability

Professional Skills

  • Five to six years experience leading the production of high quality game projects.
  • Experienced leading game development through external development teams, producing high quality results. This position will interface with internal IP owners, coordinating development and design decisions with all stakeholders.
  • Successful completion of a related and recognized post secondary program (example: Business, Project Management and/or Computer Science).
  • Expert knowledge of video games (PC and console) and industry trends.

General Management Skills

  • Prior management experience dealing with external vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks at one time is a required ability.
  • Great attention to detail and ability to follow tasks through to completion.
  • Ability to prioritize and clarify the team’s needs is essential.
  • Excellent documentation and editing skills are required.
  • Superior organizational and scheduling skills are essential.

Human Relation Skills

  • Exceptional and professional communication skills (written, spoken and comprehension/listening) is required.
  • Self motivated and capable of anticipating future requirements is essential.
  • Flexible, adaptable and practical.
