BioWare Edmonton is looking for a Producer capable of leading development for an entire game product. The producer is accountable for meeting the quality targets, budgets and performance goals of the product line, and managing the tradeoffs to deliver a highly rated game to market.

You must be passionate about the RPG games market, looking for ways to expand the game play and fun factor in the genre. Your experience includes taking an idea from concept through development to completion, while managing the development process along the way.

The ideal candidate has experience releasing previous titles in the game industry. Specific examples of creative leadership and vision provided in those titles are necessary.

The Producer is an experienced team leader, with great communication skills and a natural ability to motivate others to be their best. Experience in project management of complete game projects, managing the schedule, milestones and tasks for a large team of people is essential. You are capable of managing all aspects of the project, including requirements, scope, risk and more, including reporting to senior management and publishers on project status and key issues.

BioWare uses Agile/Scrum development practices to develop our games. Any past experience leading scrum teams or managing the process would be a valuable, but not essential skill.

Responsibilities

Vision and Creative Direction

  • Capable of leading complete development teams to deliver a complete game, from concept to release.
  • Responsible for understanding the complete process of making a quality game including art, code and design pipelines.
  • Working with the Project Director, establish and communicate the creative and technical vision for the product.
  • Negotiate, define, communicate and manage the scope to meet the goals and objectives of the project.
  • Evaluates game play and fun-factor of the product.
  • Provides a critical view to improving the game’s design or implementation, and works within the team to determine necessary changes.
  • Reviews the content in the game, providing feedback and suggestions to the team to deliver a high quality game.
  • Exhibits passion and salesmanship to provide motivation for the team and all involved in the project.

Team Interactions, Leadership & Management

  • Facilitate and drive team communication at all levels.
  • Establishes, maintains and enhances relationships with inside and outside creative resources.
  • Interacts with publishers and marketing staff to ensure effective distribution and promotion.
  • Directly involved with external communications and coordinating information flow (interviews, screenshots, demos) to the public through marketing, press, and publishers. The position requires someone with exceptional and professional communication skills.
  • Coaching others through their knowledge and experience to help build an effective team. Leads and manages the effectiveness of their team leads, dealing with communication and conflict issues to keep the team on track.
  • Interact, understand and communicate with Sr. managers within the company.

Project Management

  • Working with the Project Manager, plans and manages the production of the game, allocating resources and developing an effective and efficient schedule, budget and milestone plan to deliver the game.
  • Ensures timely and accurate game asset development.
  • Works with functional managers to continuously manage trade-offs between scope, resources and time during the project lifecycle to deliver the high quality standard expected of a BioWare game. Coordinates staffing resource needs for the team.
  • Responsible for the creation of project management documents including status reports, project plans, communications plans, post-mortems and compiling historical information.
  • Risk Management – Identify, analyze, prioritize, mitigate and communicate project risks.
  • Works with the Project Director and team leads in assessing the progress and quality of the project and the ongoing assessment and design of the bug tracking / task management system.

Skills / Abilities / Personal Suitability

Professional Skills

  • Four to six years of producing experience on a game project.
  • Published production credit(s) on high quality title(s).
  • Experience with console and/or PC platforms is desired.
  • Successful completion of a related and recognized post secondary program (example: Business, Project Management and/or Computer Science).
  • Three years of experience in a structured work environment where deadlines are specified and met.
  • Expert knowledge of video game industry trends.

General Management Skills

  • Prior management experience is required.
  • Able to deliver performance feedback to team members is required.
  • Innate ability to manage multiple and competing tasks at one time is required.
  • Excellent documentation and editing skills are required.
  • Superior organizational and scheduling skills are essential.

Human Relation Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written, spoken and comprehension/listening) is required.
  • Self motivated and capability of anticipating future requirements is essential.
  • Flexible, adaptable and practical.
