BioWare Moves! By Tom Ohle Dec 18, 2003 For a number of years, BioWare occupied the third and fourth floors of an office building on Edmonton's trendy Whyte Avenue. However, the company - now with over 170 employees - has grown greatly since first moving into that building, and space had been getting sparse at the old location for a while now. Thus we started to scope out a larger office space that was more suited to the company's needs, allowing for further expansion as we develop the martial arts action-RPG Jade Empire (to be published on Xbox by Microsoft in late 2004) as well as a couple of other as-yet-unannounced titles which are set in new, BioWare-created intellectual properties.
For several months, a number of BioWare staff, along with loads of outside help, planned the massive undertaking of moving 170 employees to a new office. The task was daunting, as it included not only the movement of people, but of large amounts of computer equipment, including our extensive server farm. So it was up to a team of system administrators, space designers, and move coordinators to ensure that the company could move to its new digs efficiently, with as little interruption to productivity as possible. That team set the seemingly unattainable goal of moving the entire company across the city in one weekend. The ideal outcome would be that staff finish working on Thursday evening at the old building, and then get right back to work at a new office on Monday morning. After an arduous weekend that involved far too much takeout Chinese food and pizza, and plenty of help from local Highland Moving and Storage, BioWare actually now finds itself in its brand new offices with just about everything set up and ready to go! The entire move crew did a *great* job. As the company continues to grow in the future, the new office will help to ensure the comfort of all of BioWare's hard-working employees, allowing us to continue to develop great video games for our awesome fans, including the 1.5 million members of the BioWare Community!
