Where can I find your module A Moonless Night?

My module can be found at NWVault.

What was the toughest thing about writing a module with such strict parameters?

A Moonless Night by Kevin ChanThe toughest parameter of the contest to work with was the word count. It was difficult to make the module immersive and write a story at the same time.

An immersive module needs a convincing atmosphere, the PC needs a motivation, and NPCs need personalities. To accommodate role-play, there has to be multiple dialogue threads (e.g. for good/evil PCs) and player decisions have to affect the outcome. All of this made the word count add up quickly. While I didn't want the module to be too verbose, it wouldn't be a BioWare-worthy entry if it wasn't descriptive.

Many people thought my entry was too linear, and that there was too much running back and forth. I agree with them. Non-linearity needs more dialogue threads than I could afford.

Would you turn this module into something longer at some point?

I might expand this module as a full-blown side quest in a proper game, if I get back to module-making with NWN2. The module was too short to establish a big picture, but it's self-contained enough to fit any typical, high-fantasy setting.

What are your favorite authors?

I don't have any favorite authors. This will sound crazy for a module-maker who entered a writing contest: I don't read many books, and I've only played one fan-made module ever. I prefer creating on my own. Having said that, the most recent books I've enjoyed were The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown) and Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden). Mr. Brown has compelling ideas, and Mr. Golden crafts believable characters.
