Baldur's Gate managed to win the Game of the Month Award from PC Games for the month of January 1999.

Baldur's Gate received a Spotlight Award as the Best RPG/Adventure Game from the Computer Game Developers' Association. The honor was presented at the Spotlight Awards ceremony at the Game Developers' Conference on March 18, 1999. Baldur's Gate was also nominated for awards as Best PC Game, Most Innovative Game Design, Best Use of Audio.

BioWare's computer game, Baldur's Gate was named Role Playing Game of the Show at the 1998 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) by UGO (Unified Gamers Online). Baldur's Gate was also the runner-up for Most Promising New Game at E3.
