MDK2 Known Issues

Please see our complete list of support MDK2 resources for additional MDK2 help.

This document is broken-up into the following sections:

Doc not able to select/use items

Some people have had an issue where after loading a quicksave with the Doctor, he is unable to select, use, or combine items. This is a known issue that is fixed in the current patch. To get around this, please zip up your "quick.sav" save game and send it to support@bioware.com and we will fix the file for you.

Installer issues

If you are having any problems installing MDK2 or the MDK2 Demo, your computer may be missing a set of files called DCOM. You can download DCOM from Microsoft.

Windows 95

Windows 98

Savage 4 video card and elevator

There is a current issue with the Savage 4 video card and the Doctor going into the elevator. The game crashes at this point. S3 has fixed the bug and the fix is available through the S3 Update Wizard.

Windows Millenium Edition

There is a bug in the current build of Windows Millenium Edition (WinME) that is preventing MDK2 from running. We have a workaround in place in the current patch.

I have killed all the Botrocks on level 3. Now what?

There are actually four Botrocks. One or more seem to have gotten lost. This is preventing the game from continuing. Use the following workaround:

1) Bring up the MDK2 console by pressing the "`" (back single quote - left of the number 1 key)

2) Type in the following without quotes and make sure the capitalization is correct - "Level.TreeDoganOnDie()"

3) You will need to repeat step 2 for as many Botrocks are left. By pressing the Up Arrow key, the previous command you entered at the console will be displayed.
This will start the cut scene with Kermit and allow you to continue.

Plant not eating bad guys (Level 3 - Doctor)

There have been some reports of the plant (Kermit) not eating all the bad guys (Botrocks) with the Doctor. The Botrock will walk in front of Kermit, but he won't eat the Botrock. Use the same workaround as above.

This will start the cut scene with Kermit and allow you to continue, BUT it won't kill the Botrocks. You can either deal with them with your new atomic toaster, or you can just take the elevator and leave.

Missing "imagehlp.dll"

You can install "imagehlp.dll" from the Windows 9x CD.

1) Throw your Win9x CD in the drive and start a DOS/Command Prompt. Change to that drive letter, then change to the "win95" or "win98" directory, depending on your OS.

2) Type in the following:
Win95 - "extract /a /e /l c:\windows\system win95_02.cab imagehlp.dll"
Win98 - "extract /a /e /l c:\windows\system win98_22.cab imagehlp.dll"

Just change "c:\windows\system" to match your computer if it is different.

Black textures on non-GeForce cards

The usual cause of black textures on owners of Voodoo 1, 2, and 3 and other non-GeForce cards is enabling hardware Transform & Lighting (T&L) on. These non-GeForce cards do not support hardware T&L and enabling T&L will slow down your game as well as black-out some textures.

Low framerates on Level 7

Level 7 is the most open area and has the most textures (around 80 meg) of any part of MDK2. If you have maximum texture detail, 32-bit color, and trilinear filtering, you computer and video card will be working very hard to render the scenes. For some of the outdoor areas, you may need to lower your texture quality by a notch or to switch to 16-bit textures.

Stuttering under Windows 98

We are looking into an issue where MDK2 "stutters" under Windows 98. We have not seen this issue under any other operating system and it does not seem to be specific to any video card.

PLEASE NOTE: This stuttering only happens occationally, as in about 25% of the time that you run MDK2. If you are seeing constant stuttering in MDK2, please check for background programs running such as virus scanners, etc.
