Note for users of the 3CD set Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga:
The Original Saga is already running the latest game version. There is no need to install any patch. More information here.

Note to users of the six CD version of Baldur's Gate with the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion: When you are installing the six CD version of Baldur's Gate with the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion, you must have both the "TOSC Patch" and "TOSC DirectX 8+" patches installed for your region. Multiplayer will not function on machines with later versions of DirectX unless both patches are installed.
